Chalk Talk: Social Learning and Development

No one likes to be bullied, but sometimes children do not know how to tell you that they are experiencing bullying. This is why you must be aware of the signs. If your child suddenly starts disliking school, ask if there is a particular person or group of people that they do not like being around. If your child begins withdrawing from family and friends, let him or her know that you will listen if they need to talk about anything. If a normally sweet kid suddenly begins to mistreat others, try to find out if they have been mistreated. Overeating can also be a sign of stress caused by bullying; ask your child if there is anything that is making him or her unhappy. If you find that your child is being bullied, let the teacher know. Participate in your school's anti-bullying programs. But most of all, be a friend to your child and give them some extra special attention.
