Deerfield Beach District and Curriculum

Like other school districts in Florida, Broward County Public Schools bases its curriculum on the Common Core State Standards and the Next Generation Sunshine State Standards so that students within the county will receive an education that will help them become successful later in life. In each grade, students will focus on the following language arts concepts: informational text, language, literature, listening, speaking, and writing. Elementary students start out with grammar, mechanics, phonics, research, and vocabulary. Middle school students move on to more complex work in analyzing text, gaining information, listening, reading, speaking, and writing. And high school students demonstrate their mastery of language arts through completing a variety of writing assignments, conducting research, and utilizing technology.

We currently cover the following Deerfield Beach-area school districts: Broward County Public Schools.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Deerfield District Curriculum

Throughout their education, students progress through a series of increasingly difficult math concepts. Elementary students practice with algebraic thinking, cardinality of numbers, categorical data, counting, fractions, geometry, measurement, and operations in base of 10. Middle school students revisit previous concepts and add equations, expressions, geometry, proportional relationships, probability, ratios, and statistics. High school students begin to concentrate more on statistics and probability.

The Next Generation Sunshine State Standards set forth 18 Big Ideas that are to be covered by K-12 Science curricula. These Big Ideas have to do with scientific practices, scientific knowledge, theories, hypotheses, laws, models, society, earth, space, time, matter, energy, motion, forces, living organisms, heredity, reproduction, and interdependence.
