Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Hillsboro District Curriculum

HDS have implemented the Common Core Standards, followed both state-wide as well as nationally. A Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium, with funding from the U.S. Department of Education, has developed an assessment system based on the CCSS. This assessment system assures comprehensive accountability, but also a flexibility to select specific content, designed to bring out the best in each student.

Other academic programs offered in the district include Dual Language, Talented and Gifted, International Baccalaureate, and the introduction of STEM schools. Selected elementary schools throughout the district have transitioned into Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) focused schools. The goal of these schools is to use best practices for instruction to motivate students to participate and engage with cutting-edge learning opportunities.
