Rome District and Curriculum

The Rome City School District includes six Elementary Schools, one grade 5-6 Upper Elementary School, one Middle School, and one High School which has been in existence since the 1860’s and was one of the first free academies in the state. The district also oversees a Pre-Kindergarten which is located at the former Clough Elementary School. The district has set as its mission to provide a nurturing, and challenging environment for the students. They also place an emphasis on valuing and encouraging diversity in the student population. The academic standards call upon students to conduct increasingly complex work over the years, and sets a clear path of objectives to help students arrive at that ability.

We currently cover the following Rome-area school district: Rome City School District.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Rome District Curriculum

The key concepts in the Language Arts Curriculum are to be able to read different forms of texts and literature, be able to apply one’s experience to the reading material, be able to write and speak on the reading material, and listen for directions and information. Students are expected to be able to apply information from previously learned material to their writing, interpret complex text and literature both fiction and nonfiction, and evaluate the reading material using critical analysis skills.

The Math curriculum is based on students learning the basics of arithmetic including computational skills, measurement, and simple algebra and geometry in the elementary grades. Students expand their knowledge of these topics and are introduced to statistics. In high school students continue with algebra and geometry and have the options to take more advanced classes such as trigonometry and calculus. Students acquire essential problem solving skills which include abstract reasoning, attention to detail, and making sense of mathematical structures and models.
