Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Robertsdale District Curriculum

One major focus of the curriculum is the development of strong literacy, writing and communication skills for students. Beginning in elementary school with phonics, reading stories, and learning to write letters and words, students then move towards far more advanced abilities in strategic reading and essay writing.

In technology, the students are engrossed in high-tech instruction on a daily basis. The instructors utilize the computer labs, mobile laptops, iPods, iPads, SmartTables, SmartBoards, projectors, and much more to aid in their teaching. The students also have courses in technology beginning in the primary grades, and in the high school there are a multitude of electives that focus upon technology and computer science. Robertsdale schools have a mission to diligently prepare the students for the future: either in the workforce directly upon graduation, or university or college bound students.

Chalk Talk: What Is a SmartTable?

A SmartTable is very much like a SmartBoard, except it is in a table form. The students can sit in chairs around the table and tap on the table for interactive fun and educational opportunities! The SmartTable is similar to a computer, but it is face up and very large for little hands to interact with. Teachers use SmartTables in small group instruction, such as reading, to develop and reinforce skills that are needed to be successful. This table also excites the learners, as it motivates students as they interact with the games and programs.
