Kitchener District Curriculum Used in Our In-Home Tutoring Programs
In Kitchener, the students learn based on the design of the Ontario Curriculum. The Curriculum provides a clear description of the knowledge areas required of students within each subject. For example, the mathematics curriculum describes the skills in algebra, geometry, data analysis and other areas that student will cover during their math education. Achievement is gauged by student’s proficiency in understanding, thinking creatively and critically, communicating meaningfully, and in applying knowledge through a range of projects, presentations, and formal assessments. With cutting-edge programming and state-of-the-art facilities, both districts offer students all the support they need to be prepared for life and work in the 21st century.
We currently cover the following Kitchener-area school districts: Waterloo Region District School Board and Waterloo Catholic District School Board.
Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Kitchener District Curriculum
The Curriculum lays out the higher level concepts that students will encounter. Based on the math curriculum, students will develop reasoning, problem-solving, an understanding of appropriate computational tools and other thinking skills. The Curriculum is meant to ensure that all students receive the same high quality standards of learning to be prepared for 21st century pursuits. It also branches out into other subjects from technology to languages and the arts.
In the visual arts curriculum, students examine the artwork of various artists to gain inspiration for their own works. Using materials of their choice, elementary students create 2-D and 3-D work that is reflective of their ideas or feelings. Students learn self-assessment strategies as well. Children evaluate their work to determine if their work has achieved its purpose. They also begin to learn how to give and take constructive criticism in order to improve their work and the work of their peers.

Chalk Talk: What Is Instructional Technology?
Instructional technology is becoming increasingly popular as an option for an add-on certificate or for a graduate degree at universities. Instructional technology is a bit different than educational technology. Instead of focusing on teaching technology to students, those receiving education in instructional technology are being taught how to directly apply different technologies and programs in the classroom so that they become experts who can "instruct" teachers in using these technologies in their classrooms. The instructional technologist is an important role in modern-day education. Teachers are expected to effectively use technology in their classroom, but many are uncomfortable doing so and are worried about technology inevitably breaking down. It is impossible for administrators to provide teachers with all the professional development they need, so this is why having a school instructional technology specialist always on hand can be extremely beneficial to all the teachers in the building. Instructional technology specialists often collaborate with teachers and principals on lessons that effectively use technology to enhance learning.
