Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Plainville District Curriculum
The district follows the Connecticut Common Core State Standards in curriculum which focuses on increasing the rigor across all subjects from English to Math to Science. The curriculum also gives focus to those with special needs students or those who are English language learners. Overall, students learn how to analyze, interpret and evaluate information, building significant critical thinking abilities.
In English, the standards focus on literacy not only in literature but across all subjects and even current events. The subject also focuses on writing, listening, and comprehension skills that will payoff for students both in the workforce and in college. In Math, the goals of developing the problem-solving and reasoning skills gained from algebraic thinking and patterning, geometry and measurement, and quantitative data analysis contribute to students future abilities.

Keeping Informed: Recent Plainville Educational News
- Students Step It Up - Sixth graders at Plainville Middle School attended an anti-bullying assembly in September. In an effort to bring awareness to bullying and create a safe environment for all students.
- Mentoring Program - Students involved in the reading and mentoring program recently received a grant, as well as books and materials. The all-volunteer organization prepares students for college and the job world by pairing them with mentors who help them on their way.
- Gearing Up for College - Plainville High School hosted an event bringing together students and colleges in the region for their Second Annual College Fair. More than 100 schools were in attendance to meet with students and parents.
