Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Bonita Springs District Curriculum

The elementary Language Arts curriculum teaches students how to quote text, determine the theme of a text, compare and contrast, find the meaning of words, analyze multimedia sources, gain information from multiple sources, write opinion, informative and narrative pieces, and communicate verbally. Students are expected to cite sources, discuss the impact of literature upon society, analyze word choice, appreciate literature from different times and places, and use the writing process.

In elementary Science, students engage in activities that teach them about the practice of science, characteristics of scientific knowledge, forces, motion, living organisms, and interdependence. In middle school, students review previous knowledge and learn about theories, laws, hypotheses, models, and science and society. And high school students take classes in four major branches of science: life science, physical science, earth/space science, and the nature of science.

Chalk Talk: Saving Money When a Student

Going to college opens up opportunities for students, but sometimes those opportunities cost money. It is important that students not incur any unnecessary debt and save money while they are still in college. Here are some practical ways to do that. If you have the ability, cook your own meals. Ask for student discounts wherever you shop. If you have a favorite store or restaurant, get a job there so you can receive discounts. Do not buy anything new if you can get it used from a classmate. Having a little bit of savings and an education can help the transition into a career be easier.
