Clearfield District Curriculum Used in Our In-Home Tutoring Programs
The key curricular requirements throughout the Davis School District are derived from the Utah Core Standards, a set of educational goals, based on the Common Core State Standards, used in over forty states and territories, to help make students ready for college and careers. In order to make sure that all students meet these goals, Davis uses the Davis Essential Skills and Knowledge (DESK) Program, a set of common guidelines in all subjects to ensure that all students are held to high standards, and supported in meeting them.
We currently cover the following Clearfield-area school district: Davis School District.
Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Clearfield District Curriculum
In Language Arts, independent reading outside of the classroom is an important part of the curriculum at all levels, with parental involvement in the early grades and self-selected reading in middle and high school. In Math, the core elements of statistics, algebra, and geometry are taught in age-appropriate forms beginning in kindergarten, preparing students over time to develop those problem-solving and quantitative reasoning skills at a higher level.
A high school diploma from Clearfield High School requires four years of English, three years of Math including algebra and geometry, three years each of Science and Social Studies, and a variety of other courses. There are four ways for students to earn more advanced credit in high school: Advanced Placement classes, International Baccalaureate classes, concurrent enrollment classes which earn both high school and college credit, and the early college program at Weber State College.

Chalk Talk: Career Education Is More Than Just Business Class
Lots of students—and their parents—are highly practical, and want to make sure that the courses they take in high school are preparing them for careers. Some of them are obvious: courses in science and math can help students be ready for careers in technical fields, and business skills and vocational education classes have direct career links. But the old standards of English and social studies can be great for career building too. The skills in reading and writing they require are an essential part of working in a modern workplace, where written communication and the presentation of data on paper is commonplace. Topics like government and civics are necessary for careers in the law or public service. Courses in the arts are excellent preparation for careers in design. Think broadly about career possibilities when choosing a high school curriculum, and make sure you aren’t neglecting core skills in the process.
