Bozeman District and Curriculum

Goals of the Bozeman Public Schools include high achievement of the students, committed staff, engagement of the community and families, and a respectful climate. The core curriculum of English Language Arts and Mathematics was developed by the Montana Office of Public Instruction to provide a set of detailed benchmarks that students need to meet each year in their subjects.

We currently cover the following Bozeman-area school district: Bozeman Public Schools.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Bozeman District Curriculum

In the teaching of reading, the instructors focus on specific learning objectives, such as the analysis of the ways elements (visual and multi-media) add to the tone, meaning, and purpose of text, such as a poem, a folktale, a nonfiction text, or a myth. The students will also master the abilities of comparing and contrasting stories of the same theme and topics. The goals of critical readership and the ability to analytically respond are features of the curriculum.

In Mathematics, the teachers are guided by instructional goals such as in the area of graphing and math literacy. The students are instructed to graph points within a coordinate plane to problem solve both real-world and math problems. The students use axes to define a coordinate system within the origin (the intersection of the lines). Using the quadrants on a plane, the students are taught to represent real-world and mathematical situations by placing points on a graph within quadrant or interpreting values of points on a coordinate graph.

Schools in areas of the country that have a high population of American Indian descendants are responsible to educate the students about the history, culture, family values, and facts about American Indians. Because many of the students have such a connection with this culture, and to familiarize the students that do not have ancestors that are American Indian, it is important that the knowledge is given to better understand the past and the future of this important population of people. The significance of this knowledge is essential to be learned about by all!
