Chalk Talk: Brain-Based Learning

A search for learning is innate in every young child. This desire to learn grows and shifts as students age, and by the time a student reaches high school many of his or her learning traits are already fundamentally set. However, students with many learning styles and a variety of learning traits can still learn using the same basic brain-based ideals. For example, the brain is a remarkable information processor; it can often process multiple facts at once, whether we realize it on a conscious level or not. Learning also engages the whole body, whether we feel tired, alert, relaxed, or stressed by the information we are receiving. Our emotions are very important to processing learning, and topics with deep emotional connection can foster stronger memories of a topic.
