Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Rensselaer District Curriculum

The Rensselaer City School District uses the Common Core Curriculum Framework in all the schools in serves. The standards set clear expectations for students in the State of New York. These expectations include an intensive learning experience focused on the basics of reading, writing, speaking, listening, language, and mathematics. In English and Language Arts and Mathematics students are taught the skills needed for college and the workforce.

In Language Arts, students read both informational text and literature and develop skills of critical analysis and learn to write and speak using evidence based informational research. Coursework is progressively more challenging in each grade, building on the year’s previous skills. In mathematics, students focus in on a limited curriculum in math including computational skills, algebra including proportional reasoning, geometry, statistics and probability. Each grade reinforces the mastery of the core subjects while further developing a fluency in math.

This is great way for kids to learn about animals a little bit at a time. There are also lists of recommended books, and movies and children can suggest what animal she should profile next.
