Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Little Falls District Curriculum

The Common Core State Standards are aimed at providing all children with the same educational level of excellence in core subjects regardless of which school they attend. The clear expectations provided in the standards let both students and parents know what skills they need to have to be successful in school. In Language Arts, students learn how to read, write, listen and speak, and demonstrating reading comprehension and critical analysis.

In Mathematics, Common Core provides a base list of mathematical subjects that are to be learned in a progressive and intense manner, with the skills learned in one grade being built upon in the next grade. The subjects include basic computation, algebra, geometry, statistics and probability. The focus is on providing students with a core mastery of skills they can use in the real world, and apply to more complex mathematical applications.
