Oviedo District and Curriculum
The Seminole County Public Schools use a standards-based curriculum, following the Common Core Standards which emphasize Math and Literacy learning. The goal is to foster problem-solving and communication skills that students use in all their subjects and to introduce students to the connections between subjects. There are also a broad array of electives and extracurriculars that are designed to increase these connections and help students realize their personal interests.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Oviedo District Curriculum
In Seminole County, the elementary Language Arts curriculum emphasizes fluency, grammar, literary analysis, phonics, reading comprehension, vocabulary development, word analysis, and writing. Middle school students are taught reading comprehension, digital media usage, the writing process, listening skills, oral communication, word selection, vocabulary development, and the research process. High school graduates have a good grasp of oral and written communication and literary genres.
The elementary Math curriculum imparts knowledge of decimals, fractions, operations, shapes, surface area, and volume. In middle school, students learn about data, equations, geometry, inequalities, integers, linear relationships, probability, and rational numbers. The high school curriculum offers classes in algebra, analysis of functions, geometry, statistics, and pre-calculus.
