Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Fallon District Curriculum
English Language Arts is taught in several methods in elementary schools. In addition to the traditional grammar/sentence construction model, students also learn the difference between literature and informational texts, and figure out how to use informational texts as a basis for learning in other subject areas. Great attention is given to making sure that student comprehension, analysis and critical thinking skills are at the highest level possible.
Mathematics curriculum in Nevada is based on the nation-wide Common Core State Standards model. Students in elementary school learn to “think” in numbers, understanding the philosophy and nature of math rather than just the function of it. High school students are required to learn algebraic operations like solving equations and using rational functions, as well as taking a course in geometry where they focus on congruence and measurement of angles and circles.

Chalk Talk: Education Planning to Improve Motivation
Students who begin planning on college from an early age will have an extra incentive to achieve in school. Introducing students to careers in realistic fields and noting the college and work required to achieve those careers can help students form realistic expectations as well as giving them internal motivation to complete their goals. Starting in junior high, students may have the opportunity to meet with parents and counselors together to begin planning the courses that will last through their high school years. Students’ goals and feelings may change, and the plan can be flexible, but simply having a plan of action in place will help guide your child through times when they may feel uncertain about their future and keep them on track to achieve their full potential. High school students should research colleges with courses of study in their desired career field
