Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Santa Fe District Curriculum
Common Core Curriculum is geared at standardizing the quality and type of education that is taught across the state. The Curriculum applies to both English & Language Arts and Mathematics. In English & Language Arts students learn to read and write and also to display their knowledge of English through oral presentations. The importance of listening as a method of learning is also stressed. The curriculum includes reading material that is both informational text and literature so that students are prepared for the different types of texts they will read in college or in the workforce.
In Mathematics students focus on the fundamentals of math including arithmetic, multiplication, division, whole numbers, fractions, measurement, algebra, geometry, probability and statistics. Mathematics is taught in a progressive manner with students building on the math skills they learned the previous year. The focus is on having students develop a core mastery of math skills that can be applied to real life situations.
