Educating Our Parents: Understanding the El Reno District Curriculum
In Mathematics in the primary grades, the students will learn about the concept of fractions. Fractional parts and fractional equivalence is taught to the students, and they use hands-on activities and various manipulatives to reinforce the skills. Pictorial models of fractions, using different types of objects for representation, and physical models of fractions allow the students to solve problems and see the whole to part ratio of the object and variable.
In English Language Arts, the primary students learn how to seek information in non-fiction texts. They become familiar and can identify text features, such as captions under pictures, italicized words, bold words, headings, subheadings, and larger fonts. The teachers instruct the students on how to use these text features to find information about the topic and answer pertinent questions, thus helping them become even better informational readers.

Chalk Talk: The High School Foreign Language Instructor
High school is full of electives that the students can choose to take. If they are interested in learning a foreign language, they can choose between Spanish, French, and possibly Latin. Some schools offer more foreign languages than others. Either way, the foreign language teacher is a vital employee within the school. They are responsible for enlightening the students about the culture of the country they are studying, with topics such as clothing, traditions, holidays, foods, customs, and more. Not only does the foreign language instructor teach the actual language, they are responsible for the other concepts as well.
