The school was established in 1870 and had an enrollment of 4,250 in the 2015-2016 school year. The mascot of the school is the boxers, a reference to the famed boxers from the city. The school is well known for its football program, as from the period of 1979-1992, the school won 6 state championships, 11 league championships, had 3 undefeated seasons, and 8 one-loss seasons. Despite the large school population, staff at Brockton High School are committed to improving academic achievement and creating a more personalized learning environment for all students. Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Brockton District Curriculum

The standards for mathematics in grades Pre-K-8 require students to master skills and develop understandings in four domains of mathematics: counting and cardinality, algebraic reasoning and operations, measurement and using data, and geometry. As they progress through each grade of the program, the curriculum stresses the same set of general standards that characterize effective mathematical reasoning. These standards include the ability to think and work through problems with precision, to use abstract and quantitative reasoning, and to develop and assess mathematical arguments.

In grades pre-K to 5, the anchor standards in reading focus on students’ ability to identify key ideas and supporting details, to explain the meanings of words used in the text, and to trace the development of ideas from the beginning to the end of a text. Other standards ensure that students are aware of how the writer’s point of view influences the text, how parts of the text relate to each other, and how to evaluate arguments developed in a text.

The city of Brockton is located in Plymouth County, Massachusetts. Fuller Craft Museum

One attraction in the city of Brockton is the Fuller Craft Museum, which contains many cultural and artistic offerings found in the Brockton area. The museum focuses on demonstrations, workshops and special events. They also offer classes in ceramics, jewelry making, knitting, painting and more for children and adults. The exhibits are fun and interactive and visitors can touch the objects and materials needed to make the crafts. Brockton Fair

The Brockton Fair takes place on the historic Brockton Fairgrounds every year. The fair is one of the oldest country fairs, having been run since 1874, and there are lots of options for entertainment and fun. Visitors to the fair can enjoy thrilling rides, fire works, live music, a demolition derby and more! One popular event at the fair is the animal exhibits, including a petting zoo, and encounters with exotic animals such as a Bengal Tiger and Sea Lion.

Rocky Marciano Statue at Champions Park

On September 23rd, 2012, the city of Brockton, World Boxing Council, and the Rocky Marciano Statue Committee unveiled a 20 foot statue in Champions Park in honor of Rocky Marciano, who was the only undefeated heavyweight boxer in history. The statue depicts Marciano landing a knockout punch against Jersey Joe Walcott during the 13th round of the 1952 Brockton Blockbuster championship fight. Marciano was famous was born in Brockton in 1923 and learned how to box while serving in the U.S. Army in World War II. He was the heavyweight champion of the world from 1952-1956. He was also inaugurated into the Boxing Hall of Fame. At the end of his career, he had won 49 straight times,  with 43 of those times being by knockout.

• Brockton is one of the windiest cities in the United States! The average wind speed is 14.3 miles per hour.
• Brockton used to be nicknamed the “Shoe City”. At that time, about 40,000 people lived in the city, 6,000 of which were employed in over 100 separate shoe manufacturing businesses.
• Found along Route 27 are a series of museums operated by the Brockton Historical Society. These museums are dedicated to portions of the city’s history, such as the shoe industry, fire fighting and an early homestead.
• In 1884, the first electrically operated fire station in the United States opened in Brockton.
• In 2010, the city set the world record for the most Santa Hat Wearers in one place, with 872 people participating in the event. In 2011, they doubled the record, increasing it to 1792 people wearing hats.
