Cleveland Heights District and Curriculum

The Cleveland Heights Community follows a Core Curriculum which opts for stringent measures to measure and evaluate student, teacher and school performance in reading, writing, and math so that students are prepared for later courses. Computerized end of course exams are given at the end of American government, American history, biology, physical science and freshman through junior English classes.

We currently cover the following Cleveland Heights-area school district: University Heights City School District.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Cleveland Heights District Curriculum

Programs in Math and English from Kindergarten to Grade 12 follow Ohio’s Academic Content Standards based on rigorous benchmarks that students are supposed to acquire at each grade level. Content standards include: Number, Number Sense and Operations Measurement, Geometry and Spatial Sense Patterns, Functions and Algebra, Data Analysis and Probability. Process Standard includes Mathematical Processes. All courses incorporate the use of critical thinking and problem solving skills using technology as well as making connections between the particular subject and real world practical contexts and applications.

As students reach middle school, achievement tests assess acquisition of vocabulary, demonstration and application of reading processes and literary applications based on information, technical words and persuasive text, which become very important benchmarks for assessing their readiness for later grades. The curriculum is focused on a K-16 model, enabling students to be prepared for post-secondary life.
