The Morristown School District offers early education programs to Morristown residents. The Lamoille South Supervisory Union serves Morristown for kindergarten through high school students. The schools include the Morristown Elementary School, Peoples Academy Middle Level, and Peoples Academy High School. The curricula at Morristown Elementary School are based on “big ideas” for each grade level. A big idea is a concept or skill that should be mastered by the end of the school year; activities and practice are designed to ensure that the concept is acquired and maintained, and assessments are developed to test mastery of the skill.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Morristown District Curriculum
In kindergarten, students are focused on combining, separating, and relating quantities in mathematics classes. The literacy focus is to master sight words. Sight words are words that students should be able to automatically recognize without needing to sound out the letters. Science big ideas are studying how to recycle, reuse materials, and will have an opportunity to watch a compost bin stocked with red worms in action. Managing anger and developing patience are also skills that will be addressed in social studies activities.
Peoples Academy Middle Level divides the curriculum into core subjects. The sixth grade team has three core subjects: mathematics, science, and humanities. The Humanities curriculum will investigate the connection between humans and the environment, culture, location, and movement. This curriculum also incorporates the use of technology and literacy, as students will write for the Young Writers Project and use technology to research, produce documents, and collect and record data.

Keeping Informed: Recent Morristown Educational News
- Time to Skate - There will be a skate camp in Johnson Park for students between the ages of seven and fourteen during the summer. Participants will be able to design and paint their own skate deck and improve their skateboarding skills. They will also enjoy a snack and a lunch during the day.

Teen workshops to learn journaling skills and pajama movie nights are also on the menu.

Chalk Talk: Taking Care of Your Eyes
Reading in dim light or for extended periods of time can be bad for your eyes. If you have a lot of reading to do, make sure that you take frequent breaks to give your eyes time to rest. After an hour or so of reading, eye doctors have suggested focusing on a small, distant object for 15 seconds. You should feel your eyes gradually stop the back-and-forth motion that occurs during reading. At the end of a nightly reading session, do not turn off the light without letting your eyes settle for a few moments. It is also important to have good lighting for your study area. Sit close to a lamp with a shade. Some lamps and light bulbs are even specially designed for reading. If you feel that your vision is diminishing, consult with an optician or ophthalmologist to see if you need vision-correcting lenses or contacts.
