Jericho District Curriculum Used in Our In-Home Tutoring Programs
The Jericho Elementary School, which provides services through the fourth grade, is the only school in the Jericho School District. Jericho students beyond the fourth grade are housed in schools that are part of the Chittenden East Supervisory Union (CESU). The mission of the supervisory union is to unite school districts for common goals and to reflect the aspirations of the communities served.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Jericho District Curriculum
The curricula of CESU are in alignment with the Common Core State Standards. The curricula for Language Arts are firmly rooted in research to gain and present knowledge. Each level from kindergarten to grade 12 has a model research curriculum that allows students to explore issues and solve problems to acquire knowledge in a practical, real-world setting. At the level of Grade 7, students are expected to be able to develop questions, use search terms effectively online to find information, and evaluate the quality of a resource.
Arts are introduced as early as kindergarten and feature subjects such as the elements of design, printmaking, drawing, and three-dimensional objects. As students progress to higher grades, they are offered coursework in graphic design, photography, calligraphy, and pottery. Technology is incorporated at every opportunity. For example, students can learn to use CAD software, use robotics to solve problems, and even to weld in some of the classes offered at the high school.

Chalk Talk: A Well-Equipped Desk
There is a fine line between a cluttered, messy desk overflowing with too many items and a sparse, bare desk that does not contain all the tools that you need. How do you decide which items to keep in your desk? Consider the typical tasks that you usually perform at your desk to separate the necessary from the unnecessary. Likely, you use pens and pencils often, but if you have colored pencils that are only rarely used, you can store them in one of the lower drawers or put them in another area altogether. You can also eliminate redundant items. For example, perhaps you store both your laptop computer and a pocket calculator on your desk. However, most laptop computers offer a calculator function so you do not really need the calculator. Store items that are frequently used in an organizer on top of the desk or in a conveniently located drawer, and store lesser used item in lower drawers or in another location. Once you have cleared off your desk, you will be proud of your new, more efficient workspace.
