North Bend District and Curriculum
The North Bend Schools prepare students for the future by using the Core Curriculum State Standards as a foundation to build on with their experienced and creative teachers. The teachers are able to use the objectives laid out in the curriculum to plan their overall teaching goals while designing lessons that will most effectively teach the content to their students.
We currently cover the following North Bend-area school district: North Bend School District 13.
Educating Our Parents: Understanding the North Bend District Curriculum
Reading is an important area of the language arts curriculum at North Bend Schools. This is approached by first teaching children the names and the sounds of letters. They then advance onto 36 stories that are based on themes. These stories help teach students different comprehension strategies as well as vocabulary words and phonetic patterns. In middle school and high school works of literature continue to be used as students use them to help clarify plot, setting, point of view, main ideas, theme inferences, analysis, and characters.
Students at North Bend Schools begin their geography curriculum by learning how to locate items on a map of their room, or classroom. They then learn about directional words as well as longitude and latitude. As they enter middle school they begin to associate geography with other subjects they have studied. They may do a project on biomes, including where they are located and the effect their location has on civilization.

Chalk Talk: What to Expect in Fourth Grade
The child that enters fourth grade has already grasped the basics of reading and math, as they continue in this grade they advance each of these skills further as they begin to work independently. The expectations of homework usually increase in this grade as well as long-term, home-based projects. In reading the students have gone from learning to read to reading to learn. Parents can help by asking what the child is reading and demonstrate reading time at home. Their writing skills also increase as they learn various sentence structures and punctuation. Encourage them to use email to talk with others. In mathematics they grasp the ideas behind fractions, decimals, division, and basic geometry. Students will also use the previous subjects as they work on science and social studies. This makes this subject area more difficult and the students may need the help of a parent to help work their way through. Fourth grade is a great grade for parents to become more involved with a child’s education.
