Chalk Talk: How to Help Organize Students with More Than One Home

Many children and students these days come from families who do not live together full-time. Many children shuffle back and forth from one parent to the other, or maybe grandparents or other family members. The economy and many other factors have had a large impact on homes in the United States. Because of this, children have two places to keep their homework and school necessities organized. There are some ways parents and teachers can work together to help. Student agendas or planners are a great place to start. If parents (or children, if they are old enough) can write the home schedule in student planners, this can be very helpful to everyone involved. This can also be a place where parents can remind each other to send a particular homework assignment in, or that P.E. clothes or shoes are needed on specific days. Keeping everyone in the loop will help everyone, especially the child who will feel more stable and confident with a plan to go by.
