Chalk Talk: Sixth-Grade Social Studies
Sixth grade is an age of change for many students, new buildings, many teachers in a day and physical changes. Social studies give students a sense of the past and how others fit in. This is helpful as these students are also dealing with some of these items. Although curriculum varies from state to state, generally students will study the ancient world in this grade, including the geography, climate and major landmarks of the areas. These students will use a number of hands-on activities to help in their learning and discovery. They will also learn how to link, sequence and interpret events in history. If a student seems to have difficulty in any of their classes, parents should contact teachers about ways to help the child.
