Scituate District and Curriculum
The school district follows the RI Department of Education Grade-Level Expectations and Common Core Standards as the curriculum for all students. Both curriculum guides establish the learning goals within each subject so that there is a clear set of standards that progress in difficulty over the years. Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Scituate District Curriculum
The Language Arts curriculum provides an outline for reading, writing, communication, research, and media studies goals for all students. Broad aims include the development of critical reading in different genres, being able to write for different purposes, vocabulary acquisition and knowledge of language conventions, and the ability to discuss and present information. Research skills include being able to find and evaluate the quality of information, and use both traditional and online library resources.
The Science curriculum covers topics in earth science, biology, chemistry, physics, the environment, and technology. In the early years, students are introduced to a variety of natural phenomenon and taught about scientists go about investigating these phenomenon. Students learn about hypotheses and ways to evaluate them and then how to communicate their findings. Technology is emerging in different ways from studying how it impacts society, to more technical coursework in programming or web design.
