Glocester District and Curriculum
The Foster-Glocester Regional Schools use Common Core Standards and Department of Education provided Grade Level Expectations to provide the learning objectives for each course. The objectives are meant to state what students should know and learn how to do within each discipline and are meant to build over the years. The goal is that by high school, students will have a depth of knowledge that will allow them to do more complex, analytical work.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Glocester District Curriculum
The curriculum in Language Arts focuses on reading, writing, speaking and listening, media literacy, and research skills. Each of these areas are meant to develop different types of analytic thinking that students will use in all their courses. The reading strand provides for both fiction and non-fiction comprehension skills to be developed and also takes into account the expectations of learning vocabulary and understanding language conventions. The research skills students learn emphasize being able to evaluate the quality of different resources while independently conducing research.
The Science curriculum provides learning objectives in earth science, biology, chemistry, physics, environmental studies, and technology. In the early years, students are introduced to many of the processes of scientific inquiry, including observation and hypotheses testing. In the later years, students begin to conduct experiments and have lab time for which they are expected to document and report on their findings.

Keeping Informed: Recent Glocester Educational News
- Running Start - The Running Start program is for any senior with a GPA of 2.75 or higher who wishes to pursue courses at CCRI during their senior year. The students will earn credit that can be used for both high school and college.
- Parent Involvement - Each school in the district has an active Parent Teacher Organization which supports classroom initiatives by fundraising and partnerships between the schools and community which can bring in extra resources to benefit the students. For any parent wishing to get involved with one of the PTO's, the district offers up this link to find the right one!
- Academic Pathways - For high school students who are seeking to have additional recognition given to the work they have accomplished in high school, the Pathways available provide students with endorsements in areas like World Languages, Technology, the Arts and many more areas, to show the students achievement.

Chalk Talk: Maximizing Extracurricular Activities
When students are in middle and high school they are able to choose from a number of extracurriculars available. The extracurriculars are a part of the schools offerings that shouldn't be overlooked - many of them are academically competitive or hone future professional skills like the Debate Club or school newspaper. Others give students a chance to become more active in their community, and helps a student stand out for the service they've given. When a student is applying to college, there may likely be a question about what extracuriculars they were involved in - rather than leaving it blank, it's a good idea to get involved with one or two activities that are interesting. Or, if a student has the initiative to start a club, that will look great on a college application.
