Millville District and Curriculum
Millville Public Schools serves students in pre-K through 12th grades at one of its eleven schools throughout the community. The total population of the district is approximately 6,000 students. The mission of Millville Public Schools is to ensure that each student has the knowledge and skills they need to be successful in all aspects of life. This mission is carried out by a strong partnership between students, parents, teachers and members of the community.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Millville District Curriculum
In order to prepare students for future success, the district has developed a curriculum for all core subject areas at all grade levels. The Math and Language Arts curricula are developed using criteria from the Common Core Standards. The New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards provide guidelines for the knowledge students should acquire in all other subjects.
Millville Public Schools has developed Language Arts standards that are evidence-based and rigorous, and prepare students for success in their post-secondary pursuits. In elementary school, curriculum stressed learning the basics of spelling, punctuation, grammar, idea development and organization. In middle school, students learn to speak well, how to construct well-formed paragraphs and how to engage in active listening. In high school, students acquire skills necessary to analyze texts for meaning, make inferences about possible outcomes of a story and learn how to properly cite sources in research.

- Governor Increases Education Spending - Educators around New Jersey breathed a sigh of relief when funding figures for fiscal year 2014 were recently released by the Governor. Funding has increased by nearly $100 million over last year, bringing the state education appropriation to $9 billion.

Fostering a love for reading in young people is a crucial component of helping them be successful in their educations. But too often works of fiction are emphasized, with little focus on nonfiction reading. Books of fiction are excellent reads and should be a part of your child’s reading regimen, but so too should nonfiction books. Well written nonfiction – works that are engaging, interesting and fast-paced – help bring past events and people to life. A well-told story about the Dust Bowl, Prince George III or Alexander the Great can turn a “boring” history subject into an unforgettable narrative. Engaging kids in reading about actual events helps them to better their reading skills, learn to appreciate the importance of history and helps them develop a love of learning.
