Chalk Talk: The Role of Distance Learning
Not so long ago, distance learning was limited to students studying at colleges and universities. However, distance learning has been widely adopted by many school districts in an effort to reach special populations who may not otherwise have access to education. In some school districts, distance learning is utilized for homebound students – those who for health or behavioral reasons cannot come to school – so they stay on track to graduate. In other school districts, distance learning allows students to take virtual classes from local colleges or universities that may not otherwise be offered at their high school. Still other districts utilize this to allow students to interact with students in other states and countries. Whatever the application, distance learning helps advance educational opportunities for many students.
