Rockaway Township District and Curriculum
Students in Rockaway Township, New Jersey attend school in one of two public school districts. The Rockaway Township Public Schools operates five elementary schools and one middle school, which together serve over 2,500 students in kindergarten through 8th grade. Students in high school attend either Morris Hills High School or Morris Knolls High School, both of which are part of the Morris Hills Regional High School District. The Morris Hills district serves nearly 3,000 students between their two facilities.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Rockaway Township District Curriculum
The New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards provide guidance for student learning from pre-kindergarten through the 12th grade. Standards have been developed for science, social studies, health and physical education, 21st Century life and careers, visual and performing arts, technology and world languages. The math and language arts curricula are governed by the Common Core State Standards, which seek to provide standards for those two content areas.
A component of the social studies curricula at both local school districts is an exploration of what it means to be an active citizen in the 21st Century. By the end of grade four, students will be able to plan or participate in civic activities, understand who local government officials are and how to contact them about issues of concern and be able to examine unfair rules or practices and provide possible solutions. After middle school, they will have participated in discussions with students from other nations about differences in perspective, participated in mock trials, and engaged in discussions on issues facing the community.

- Math, Science and Engineering Academy Offered - Morris County students who are interested in careers in the fields of math, science or engineering can apply to participate in the academy program at Morris Hills High School. Students who are accepted undergo a rigorous four-year program that includes internships with local businesses.

It’s no secret that when learning is fun, kids are far more engaged and retain far more information. Other apps require kids to save a man from falling off a cliff by performing mental math exercises, while others reward kids for correct answers with in-app games like Angry Birds. The common thread between these apps is that they engage kids with fun graphics, exciting noises and positive reinforcement. The result is that kids acquire valuable math skills that they can use in math classes at school.
