Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Richardson District Curriculum
The reading program at Richardson schools begins by demonstrating to children the basics of reading a book. The students are shown how to hold it and how to read from left to right. As the children continue in this subject, they learn different strategies to decipher words, such as looking at the picture. After the basics, children begin to read for learning, as they apply all the tools they have acquired to help them in other subjects.
Geometry is a part of the mathematics curriculum at Richardson schools. At first students learn the characteristics that make up simple shapes like a circle, square or a triangle. They then learn how to take these two-dimensional shapes to identify three-dimensional representations of the shapes. As they go on students learn how to find the measurements of a shape like the angles of the sides, the perimeter, or the volume of a shape. The equations that they learn through geometry help students become better problem-solvers after graduation. view all richardson tutors

Chalk Talk: The Role of School Counselors
School counselors, whether at the high, middle or elementary level, are jacks of all trades. However, many people do not know what these professionals purpose is. In addition to helping students with bullying or peer issues they can help to direct a student’s educational choices, plus help with study skills or college applications. They are there to help with emotional, social or academics issues that students may have. Often times, they are looked at as a buffer between the student and/or parent and the principal. Especially if they present themselves as unbiased when dealing with students.
