Holbrook District and Curriculum

The curriculum provides a comprehensive overview of learning in each subject. The ELA curriculum follows Arizona State Standards program, College and Career Ready curriculum that is designed to prepare students for college and careers when they graduate high school. The College and Career Ready math program is designed to be more coherent and focused. It does focus on giving students the understanding of conceptual ideas. Beyond the core, there are also a wide range of programs designed to engage students and provide real opportunities in career-driven learning.

We currently cover the following Holbrook-area school district: Holbrook Unified School District.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Holbrook District Curriculum

When students attain the ELA standards set for them, they will have developed necessary skills in reading, writing and listening. These skills are the underpinning for a student’s ability to communicate with skills that are creative and that have purpose. Besides teaching the basics of learning the alphabet and recognizing and writing letters, students learn to write in different forms, such as narratives or book reports. They learn to communicate through writing and speaking, transferring things they have read and heard into their own words.

The mathematics program, in order to ensure an in-depth knowledge of mathematics, students continue to go over concepts they have already learned, organizing the concepts of place value and the operations of place value and structure. The goal of the mathematics program is to prepare students to compete for a career in the increasingly global world which they will be entering when they finish high school.

Chalk Talk: The Importance of Body Language in Communication

Something that people may not have considered in communication is the importance of noticing the body language of the person or people with whom you are talking. Body language will tell you a lot about how what you are saying is affecting your audience. Watch facial expressions and other mannerisms. Are some crossing their arms? That could mean they are not real happy with what they are hearing. Do they look relaxed or tense? Do some look confused? If you are seeing looks of confusion you might want to stop and allow some question and answer time. Take your cues from your audience and you will see different results.
