Waterford Township District and Curriculum
Students in preschool through the sixth grade in Waterford Township, New Jersey attend school in the Waterford Township School District. The Waterford district serves approximately 900 students who attend one of three schools in the district. Once students reach seventh grade, they attend the Hammonton Public Schools, where they remain until the graduate from high school. Students in both districts take part in classroom learning that is both engaging and challenging. Children acquire necessary academic skills in order to be successful students, but they also acquire life and career skills that will prepare them for success later in life.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Waterford Township District Curriculum
Curriculum development in the Waterford Township School District and the Hammonton Public Schools is primarily guided by the New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards. Standards are in place for health and physical education, technology, visual and performing arts, 21st Century life and careers, world languages, social studies and science. Math and language arts curricula are developed according to the Common Core State Standards, which outline a challenging skill-based program of learning for students in kindergarten through the twelfth grade.
The health and physical education curriculum focuses in part on safety to prevent injuries, recognize unsafe situations and utilizing first aid procedures. In elementary school, students learn the value of wearing personal protective equipment, such as bike helmets, when participating in physical activities. Students also learn how to dial 911 for help should emergencies arise. In middle school, students acquire basic first aid skills and learn how to apply those skills in situations in which someone has been hurt. Students also learn how to identify potentially unsafe situations.

- Presidential Award for Excellence - Two New Jersey teachers have received the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching. Only 102 teachers nationwide received this prestigious honor.

Chalk Talk: Taking Exams
Taking exams, whether they be a end-of-unit exam or a major standardized test like the SAT, can be an anxiety provoking experience for some students. If your child struggles on exams, consider these tips to help them get ready for test day. First, set aside a specific time each night to study for the test. Don’t let your child wait until the last minute to cram! The more they engage in the material, the better they will remember it. Second, on test day, ensure your child eats a good breakfast. Our brains need fuel to work at an optimum level, and a good breakfast will supply that fuel. Lastly, remind your child to read each question thoroughly and to ask for help if they don’t understand a question. Kids can become frustrated if a question isn’t worded well or if they don’t understand what it’s asking, so be sure to reinforce the behavior of asking for help from the teacher.
