Macomb District and Curriculum
Macomb’s top notch school districts make it a sought after community to live in. Macomb area district educators use the Common Core State Standards, which were adopted by the state of Michigan in 2010, to prepare rigorous and engaging activities for their students. These standards provide clear learning objectives and expectations for students. The districts also offer many distinct programs for students; both Chippewa Valley Schools and L’Anse Creuse Public Schools offer programs in which students can customize their learning experience to best meet their personal goals.
We currently cover the following Macomb-area school districts: Chippewa Valley Schools, L’Anse Creuse Public Schools, New Haven Community Schools, and Utica Community Schools.
Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Macomb District Curriculum
The Language Arts curriculum in Macomb Township area schools allows students to develop both verbal and written communication skills that will be important in their everyday lives. Students in the Macomb Township area begin their journey into reading and writing very early—first exploring letter sounds and relationships, then later delving into more complex skills such as fluency, comprehension, and referencing. Chippewa Valley Schools use the research- based program “Being a Writer” in Kindergarten through 5th grade. This program was created to develop writing skills as well as foster creativity in authors.
Macomb area school districts are active participants in their learning, and Math and Science is no exception! Students are given hands-on and relevant learning activities to make their learning more meaningful and deeply connected. Utica Community Schools are committed to helping every student achieve success and through the six career pathways, students can choose the courses that will best meet their future educational and career needs.

Chalk Talk: 20 Minutes a Day
It’s soccer season and little Timmy has practice three times a week, a game once a week, and a spelling test on Friday. Parents will ask the question “How do I fit it all in?” Like many American families, we all struggle to find the perfect balance. But, there have been an abundance of research studies done that show a simple TWENTY minutes of reading a day can do wonders for a student! Reading for twenty minutes a day has been shown to increase listening skills, better prepare students for Kindergarten, and build early listening skills. There is also a strong correlation between students who are read to or read with daily and their academic ability. Scheduling twenty minutes per day to read with your child not only increases their academic ability, but it also gives you the opportunity to spend some much needed “quality” time together. Happy reading!
