The writing curriculum at Rowlett Schools begins with students learning how to learn how to write their letters, words, sentences and paragraphs. Soon students learn how to use descriptive words to express ideas that others can see in their minds. Next they learn about different types of writing, characteristics of various types of writing and an author’s view. As they develop their writing skills, these students become competent and are ready to face any opportunity for writing in their future.
The social studies curriculum begins by showing Rowlett students the world around them. They learn about rules that are needed to help keep them and others safe. It begins with their classroom and home, then the students learn how these same rules can be used to form the foundation of laws needed in the community. The process that it takes for laws to be formed is also introduced. Soon students see the say that they have in making laws and how the actions they take can change a community and a country. They also see how this is connected to communities in other countries.

- The Book Thieves - The Book Club, otherwise known as the Book Thieves, was formed for students that have a love of reading. Students involved in this organization choose and read books each month. After reading the books, they come together to share their thoughts and insights to what they read. Through this sharing of thoughts students learn how to respect others thoughts, while being free to share their own.
- DECA Club - Distributive Education Clubs of America prepare students for futures in marketing, finance, hospitality or management. Students are prepared for college, or for going directly into these fields, through meetings. They are also shown how they can have an impact on their community through service, by acting with ethics, integrity and high standards.
- Key Club - Key Club is sponsored by the Kiwanis Club International. This is a service organization who help out the school and the community through various service projects throughout the year.

Most students are faced with developing a science fair project at some time during their education. The difficulty for some is deciding on what to present. Before deciding, it is a good idea to do some research to see what the child’s interests are. This is where parents can help. First, plan a trip to the library. While there take advantage of the different resources available, such as the reference librarian, multi-media offerings and more. Next, see if there is someone in the community that has a science background who the student can talk with to find some ideas. Next, try the internet. There are many sources out there, but some are more reliable than others. The best choices end with “edu” or “gov”. Finally, look at the things that the student enjoys doing. Everything is surrounded by science, whether it is physics in a sports activity or the different technology involved in video or computer games. After all of this research, help the child narrow their choices to the ones that inspire them the most, and enjoy the directions that this inspiration leads.
