These standards helps ensure that all students enrolled in Islip Public Schools are on track for college and career. The district also provides a wide array of elective and career-oriented courses to help students explore their interests.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Islip District Curriculum
Islip’s reading and language arts curriculum incorporate both content and skill and places a strong emphasis on student’s acquiring knowledge in literature through reading, writing, speaking and listening. The district’s math program uses cooperative group learning, differentiated instruction and hands on learning using manipulatives (e.g. beads, geo-boards) to actively engage its students. The goal of the district’s math program is to provide learning experiences for students that help them develop a solid understanding of math concepts and fluency in basic math skills.
To promote positive youth development in its student, Islip Public Schools places high importance on and incorporates character education programs into its curriculum. Islip Public School also provides its primary and elementary student “specials” in art, music and physical education during the school day. Fine arts programming and interscholastic athletics are part of the program at both Islip Middle and High School.

Chalk Talk: The Importance of Homework Time
Homework Time provides a great opportunity for parents, guardians and caregivers to get involved in their children’s education. Homework Time is the perfect opportunity to express to children the importance of education. Stay involved by expressing interest in what your child learns at school. You can support their learning with a trip to the library or book store, reading their stories or journals or helping them study for a test or a special school activity such as the science fair. It is important to attend parent teacher conferences and communicate with school staff often – even if your child is doing well in school. Today’s family schedules are often busy from morning till night. It is important to try to attend special school events such as concerts and field trips. By being involved in your children’s education you show them that education is a top priority.
