The Irondequoit school districts emphasizes the mastery of academic skills and the development of a positive attitude toward learning. The district’s curriculum is aligned to The New York State P-12 Common Core Learning Standards. Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Irondequoit District Curriculum

The Language Arts curriculum consists of standard based explicit instruction in reading, writing, speaking, listening and critical thinking skills. The Math program’s goal is to provide students with the necessary skills and language to be successful in an increasingly technological world. The program provides a foundation in math that includes content knowledge and process skills. The program is student centered and differentiated instruction is provided to meet the needs of a diverse group of learners.

In the elementary schools, computers are used to reinforce classroom learning in English, Language Arts, Math, Social Studies and Science. At the intermediate level, students learn to use spreadsheets, word processing, presentation software, digital cameras and scanners for curriculum related projects. High schools use a wide variety of digital resources to conduct research in various subject areas. Pre-engineering and mechanical drawing classes allow student to use their technology skills in real world applications.

Keeping Informed: Recent Irondequoit Educational News

  • Project Bridge - Project Bridge is a research study currently being conducted at the University of Rochester. The project’s goal is to study relationships in families whose children are transitioning into adults. Participating families would talk to each other, play computer games, complete a survey, respond to questions and asked to wear a heart monitor during some of the activities. Families would also be asked to return next year for a follow-up visit. To be eligible to participate in this study your child must be enrolled in 6th or 7th grade, live in a home with two adults and both adults must read and speak English fluently.
  • Dollars for Scholars - Dollars for Scholars is a nationwide program staffed by volunteers in over 3,000 communities across the country that raises funds, award scholarships to students and helps their families through the financial aid process. East Irondequoit Central School District recently launched its new Dollars for Scholars website to help students access more scholarships by completing an on-line profile which will then match them to multiple available scholarships. The website will also keep the community updated on news, event and deadlines and current educational national news. Parents and students will now have the convenience of finding out all the information needed college entry in one place.
  • Greater Rochester Cheer and Dance Competition - The district recently announced that the Varsity Cheerleaders Team won First Place in the Greater Rochester Cheer and Dance Competition. The students trained very hard for the competition and displayed to all the great athleticism involved in cheerleading and dance. Congratulations to the team for giving us all something to cheer about!
