Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Bedford District Curriculum
In the Social Studies curriculum, Bedford students learn the characteristic that make a good citizen. They then study people like Martin Luther King, Jr., Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, and several leaders from around the world to see if they have these characteristics. They discover that all people have the ability to be a good citizen and it is up to each one to live up to this possibility.
The Mathematics curriculum at Bedford schools begins by teaching students how to place one number for each item in a set when counting. Soon children are learning how to add these numbers, then subtract, multiply and divide. From their, they develop more complex computation skills as well as how to choose the best computational method to solve a problem. Throughout their learning, they also learn about other aspects of math, such as measuring, geometry, statistics and algebra. When they graduate, these students are ready to face the world as problem-solvers.

- Texas Association of Future Educators - The Texas Association of Future Educators (TAFE) was organized to assist students that had the wish to become involved in the field of education after graduation. Students learn some of the skill needed to be successful, such as leadership skills, communication skills plus the specific skills needed to do well in the area of their future employment.
- Family, Career and Community Leaders of America - The Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) helps students that are currently in the Family and Consumer Sciences education program. In this group, members are looked upon as family. After participating in this group previous members were able to make a difference in their family, careers and their communities by showing how important family, work and issues that face the society are dealt with through their education.
- International Thespian Society - Bedford Schools are a part of the International Thespian Society. This society helps promote plays that are produced across the country. Students that become members are open to several scholarships and invitations to take part in various functions throughout the country and the world.

Science Fairs can be overwhelming for some students. The thought of coming up with an idea, researching it and then presenting it to a group of strangers can even make adults cringe. If the parents, and students take a few moments to breathe and follow some advice, all of this worry may be unnecessary. First of all, when the student chooses a project, they need to choose one that interests them enough that they will be able to work on it for a couple of months. Then they need to see if they can find enough written information on their topic. When looking at the experiment, they need to make sure that it will not cause damage or injuries to anyone. Then are all the materials needed for this experiment easy to obtain. When it comes to presenting it, the student needs to think about whether their idea is original or if there will be others that are doing the same, or similar project. The judges like new and fresh ideas, instead of hearing the same report again, and again. By choosing a project that is of interest to the student, then looking for the unique angle of it, then by practicing presenting the report, the student will be able to rest a little easier about this science fair.
