Chalk Talk: Team Sports

Team sports have numerous social, emotional and physical benefits for children living in today’s world. First of all they get kids, active, moving, healthy, and help combat obesity. Physical activities also force kids to leave behind their smartphones, tablets, computers, video and computer games, even for a short time and connect, communicate and socialize with other kids and grown-ups. Team Sports help teach youth important life skills such as kindness, responsibility, cooperation, compassion, patience, practice and persistence. Children can be very self-centered. Team Sports help children think of a group as a whole and teaches them to be happy for other player success since it is beneficial to the whole team. Athletic Coaches often become positive role models for kids. One of the most powerful benefits of Team Sports is that it encourages family time. Whether it’s practicing drills, shooting baskets providing team snacks or cheering your child on from the bleachers – team sports provides memorable, fun family time.
