Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Friendswood District Curriculum
The Social Studies curriculum at Friendswood School covers many topics. In kindergarten, children learn about the state they are living in, including the symbols that represent the state. Soon students learn about the importance citizens of the state have in caring for their surroundings by taking part in a service project. They learn about civic engagement by studying various leaders in American history, and participate in projects to understand how to contribute to a well-functioning society.
Students at Friendswood Schools learn how to read by integrating other subject matter into this curriculum. The students learn about Texas by reading tales on this state. They then discuss which of these tales are fictional and which are non-fiction. By continuing this cross-integration of subjects into their learning they are able to learn about other historical eras by reading stories like “Gatsby” and “The Grapes of Wrath” when they are in high school.

- Business Professional of America - Business Professional of America allows students to hone business skills as they prepare to compete regionally, state-wide or nationally. By improving these skills, the students will be able to excel in occupations in business, plus they develop leadership skill and become members of the National Technical Honor Society.
- Interact Club - Interact is a part of Rotary Club International. Students take part in service projects and develop understanding about international issues. Each year this club performs at least one international project along with several more in the school or the community.

While members, students become more familiar with French cuisine, French films and they take trips to French venues. Generally, girls will break into tears and look for emotional help while boys try not to cry and generally will not ask for help. Regardless, parent need to open the door so that each child will speak about their feelings while being sympathetic. With these hints, parents can help their child through this emotional time.
