As they progress, they begin to look into the people that formed the world, including those from the early River Valley. Students have now learned the different type of people that helped form the world today and how communities change while still being interdependent.
The students of Nacogdoches become proficient and fluent readers in the elementary grades. Then in the middle school years they are able to focus on the themes and author’s view in writing, as well as the characteristics in different genre. These skills are then able to be used to learn subtle ideas in book. They learn about inference by reading “To Kill a Mockingbird” and about moral dilemmas by reading “Beowulf. By reading advanced, and increasingly complex texts, students develop the interpretative skills to approach literature critically.

- FFA Organization - FFA helps show students how to develop leadership skills, while experiencing personal growth. Through FFA students become more aware of the importance of agriculture to the world. The members participate in service project where they promote healthy lifestyles and cooperation between all the members of an area.
- Key Club - Key Club is a service organization which is sponsored by Key Club International. They work to unite the community, the school and their homes. They participate in Christmas in the Pines, Harvest House and the Veteran’s Day Parade along with many other opportunities.
- Golden Dragon Band - The band is geared to students that have a love of instrumental music. Students can take part in marching or symphonic band. While perfecting their skill students can take part in competitions, sporting events and concerts.

Colleges receive many applications from students that want to attend their university. The SAT scores are one way that they narrow the choices. Preparing for these tests can be overwhelming, especially if a family is on a budget. The desire may be there to hire a tutor to assist with the preparation, but financially this may not be realistic. There are ways to help a child prepare without breaking the bank. SAT preparation books can be found in many book stores or on-line. With these books, and time to practice, students can prepare themselves for the tests. Beware, there are many versions out there, compare the books, usually the version that is one to two years older will be less expensive but still have the same material as the newer one. When practicing the test, check to see where the child needs more assistance and then look into material to help in these areas. The final tips for preparing for the tests are to help the child get a good night’s sleep before test day. If the child does not do well the first time, that is all right. There are many opportunities to re-take the test. They will be more aware of what to expect and will be more at ease.
