Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Rosenberg District Curriculum
The English Curriculum at Rosenberg Schools helps students learn the basics of reading through the elementary and middle school years. They learn about author’s voices and choices, along with other literary elements, such as character, setting and more. When they enter high school they are able to use the skills they have acquired and then they build on them by using them on literary works. They learn about poetry, including the elements then they analyze poems like “Soft Rains Will Come.” Or they use the fundamentals to complete a novel study of works like “The Scarlet Letter,” or “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer.”
Rosenberg Schools developed a Mathematics curriculum that covers all the areas of mathematics in a style that allows repetition throughout the grade levels, and then the students build on these gradually. By the time they are through high school, these students are able to take classes like calculus, trigonometry, or geometry. In these classes they may learn about topics like sines and cosines, or properties of circles and angles.

Chalk Talk: Helping a Child with Science
Science skills are always helpful to succeed in life or in college. There are a few ways to encourage children to do well in science class. Help children to understand that there is not always one right answer, especially in science. Help them learn how to look at a problem from various angles. Next help them learn that when working in a group they should speak up. In science, quite a bit of work is done in groups and by sharing ideas the group have a better chance of finding a solution. Finally, help children know that taking notes is important. Each teacher has a different viewpoint from which they teach. Children need to know what the teacher is going to cover on tests. By helping children realize what needs to be done in science class, parents can help their students to be successful scientists.
