Chalk Talk: The Benefits of STEM

With the rise in alternative education options, STEM schools have been popping up in school districts around the country. STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. STEM schools focus specifically on these subjects in a communal setting. Students aren’t divided by grade level, but rather by interest, and are encouraged to learn more about the math, science, and technical subjects through hands-on learning. Other core subjects are taught but the main focus is on STEM subjects. STEM is beneficial because it allows students to be creative and pursue subjects they are passionate about. STEM is beneficial because it starts giving students essential job instruction from an early age. STEM is beneficial because students who might struggle in a traditional classroom space are provided with a free-range environment for them to explore and learn. Finally, STEM is beneficial because it provides another method of education that helps thousands of children who don’t fit into basic learning molds.
