The Greenwood Village schools follow academic standards set forth by the state. Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Greenwood Village District Curriculum
The language arts standards set the objectives for developing critical reading, writing, discussion, and research skills. Students are also taught about media viewing and different forms of media are used to help them understand how texts influences the world. Students develop the ability to analyze literary works, recognize literary techniques, understand a point of view that an author has, and recognize bias in a text. They also learn how to evaluate information found while conducting research.
The math standards are also more challenging and involve learning fewer concepts but doing so in much greater depth. Math instruction should be “focused and cohesive.” At the elementary level, there is a focus on numbers and operations—the foundations needed for success in math down the road. Middle school mathematics key in on rates, ratios, and proportions. In high school, students apply concepts and functions learned in algebra, geometry, and calculus and understand how they intertwine.

- Eagle Crest High School Library Honored - The Eagle Crest High School Library has recently received honors by the American Association of School Librarians for their programming. As a winner of the National School Library Program of the Year the library will receive a $10,000 award to continue developing programs and acquiring content that is relevant and engaging to the students.
- STEM and IB Programs at Smoky Hill - Students at Smoky Hill High School were recently given the chance to conduct interdisciplinary investigation in biology, chemistry and physics and present original research in a conference style science fair. The International Baccalaureate Program promotes hands-on, project-based learning tied into next generation subjects such as the STEM areas of science, math, engineering and technology.
- Colorado Destination ImagiNation State Championships - More than 40 teams from the Cherry Creek School District will be competing in the Colorado Destination ImagiNation State Championships. Students are issued challenges that must be solved through teamwork, creativity and original thought and then are presented to judges. The academic competition requires that students are proficient in all areas their subjects.

Choosing a high school course of study is an important step during freshman and into sophomore year. Students need to have a good understanding of the different pathways available, their graduation requirements and how they might differ from the expectations of colleges they plan to apply to, or about career-oriented programs that might be of interest. Students should also be aware of elective offerings and any prerequisites they may need to take in order to take all the courses they want to take. Finally, some advanced or honors options are worthy of consideration; while it is not always necessary to take the harder courses, don’t write them off until you have weighed the pros and cons of taking or not taking them and finding the best course schedule for you and your goals.
