Springfield District and Curriculum
Springfield School District takes very seriously its responsibility to provide quality education for its students. With that in mind, they adhere to the guidelines set out by the Pennsylvania Department of Education. One area of specific focus to this school is in their art curriculum. They place emphasis on visual arts from kindergarten all the way through 12th grade. They teach students to look at, evaluate, respond to, and create art. By the time they reach high school, students have studied many aspects of art and are ready to specialize as well as study other artists in a new way.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Springfield District Curriculum
In their language arts curriculum, Springfield School District starts its elementary students with reading and comprehension, teaching them to ask questions and formulate ideas as to what is going on. In junior high, students are required to build on these skills. They learn about different types of writing such as persuasion, narrative, expository, and they must begin drawing conclusions from what is read. They also study writing structure and grammar. In high school they must do all of these things but take them to a new level where they will be required to research and apply information, and understand what is being stated.
Springfield School District also offers the other core and required classes according to state regulations. In the math offerings, students are given the tools they need, step by step, to be well equipped for what may lie ahead in this technological age. Starting from elementary grades and proceeding through high school, math courses build on each other until high school where many courses are offered to meet the needs and goals of individuals.

Keeping Informed: Recent Springfield Educational News
- Microsoft Partners with Springfield Students - Microsoft has partnered with Springfield School District to provide Microsoft Office 2013 Pro for either PC or MAC and Windows 8 Pro for only $9 each. This goes to any senior who has attended for at least a year at the high school.
- National Take-Back Day at Springfield School District - Springfield School District will participate in National Take-Back Day on April 26th. This is a day to raise awareness about the dangers of the abuse of prescription drugs. There are drop boxes in the area at local police stations which will be anonymously collecting some prescription drugs that people may have laying around which could be abused. These will be available permanently.
- Governor’s Award for Excellence in Academics Presented to Two District Schools - The Acting Secretary of Education in Pennsylvania came to present the Governor’s Award for Excellence in Academics to two Springfield School District schools: E.T. Richardson Middle School and Springfield Literacy Center. The Secretary applauded the schools for being such a good example to other schools.

The great thing about it is that these technologies can open doors that were never before opened, especially for students who need a little extra help on a topic, or for those that need a little extra challenge. Because of the nature of computers in technology, with time in the computer lab, teachers can focus on teaching students who need extra help while students who understand the material can dig deeper. This coupled with the fact that class planning, grading, and other tasks can be completed faster with current technology, these advantages score high when considering advanced technology in schools.
