Chalk Talk: Dual Credit for High School Students

While dual credit is often offered to high school students, its benefits are often not fully explained. Dual credit, the process of earning college credit while using the same credits to satisfy high school requirements, can allow high school graduates a huge jump start on their college education. For those who don’t want to take forever on their degree, this is one way to not only cut down on time taken to obtain the degree, but also cut down on costs of tuition. Most colleges offer a discount rate to high school students attending classes. Not only this, but college classes take the idea of “college prep” to a whole new level, exposing students to what they’ll be facing after high school. While students may not be able to participate fully in the normal “high school scene” at school if attending college classes, they can certainly still take part in extracurricular activities at the high school and stay involved with friends. With so many advantages, it is easy to see why this option is offered in many schools.
