Indiana District and Curriculum
The Indiana Area School District has worked very hard to meet all requirements set out by the Pennsylvania Department of Education. They have improved many of their programs to meet these standards over the years and now proudly present courses that meet or exceed guidelines. Each grade level has several critical areas for math (e.g.: understanding whole number relationships and place value). For each unit of the school year, the specific standards that align are explained in great detail.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Indiana District Curriculum
To indicate whether or not students understand and meet current standards, PSSA (Pennsylvania System of School Assessment) exams are given to students in elementary school and middle school. In high school, Keystone exams are administered. PSSA exams are given for the topics of Reading, Writing, Mathematics, and Science at specified grade levels. Keystone exams are given in Biology, Algebra I, and Literature.
More than these Core courses, Indiana Area School District also offers many other courses including Environment and Ecology courses, History, Economics, Health, Safety and PE, Career Education, and many more. Each of these offerings are also up to state standards and allow students to be well prepared for the world outside of high school. By incorporating rigorous standards and student-based activities, and teaching in a way so that students understand how it applies to real world situations, and providing students with frequent and specific feedback to allow them to keep track of and own their learning, students acquire the tools for success.

- East Pike Elementary Students Experience New Foods Made by Visiting Chef - Executive Chef for Chartwells School Dining Services in the Mid Atlantic Region came to teach elementary students about eating healthy. On top of his talks to the students, he prepared a delicious vegetarian chili which was a huge hit among students proving that healthy food can be tasty as well!
- Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools Gives Accreditation to Indiana High School - Congratulations go to Indiana High School for their hard work in achieving accreditation through the Middles States Association of Colleges and Schools. This accreditation shows the school’s dedication to learning and improvement. The accreditation is good for a total of seven years. Way to go!
- Indiana High School Represented in the All-State Orchestra - Three students were privileged to represent Indiana High School in the All-State Orchestra. The music education department provides students with many different opportunities to participate from chorus to orchestra, all of which get to compete in regional competitions and events throughout the year.

Deciding on a career path can be difficult, especially in a school environment where you may have only had limited exposure to various career choices. For this reason, there are many resources available through your local school counseling office, local public library, and on the internet to do research. When thinking about careers that might be right for you, start by writing down what you are good at. If you have one class that you excel in, it might be a clue. If your friends all come to you for advice, that might be another. Now you have a starting point. Find career options that share your strengths and interest. Some schools can give you links to or offer you tests that can help you know what your skills are and some job options that might match them. Be aware that these tests are not always 100% correct, but they certainly can help give you ideas. Once you have a list of good career options that interest you, look at what will be possible for you to complete.
