Eagle Point District and Curriculum

The schools in Eagle Point adhere to a curriculum that is comprehensive and based on standards adopted across the state to ensure educational equity and a curriculum that looked toward the next generation for the students. In addition to the learning standards in each subject, students are expected to meet College and Career Readiness Standards that incorporate both critical thinking skills and essential practical abilities. Students are also required to participate in community service and develop areas of themselves through the projects and outreach they work on.

We currently cover the following Eagle Point-area school district: Jackson County School District.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Eagle Point District Curriculum

The schools require that students meet the core academic standards laid out in the curriculum and assessed through statewide tests. The academic standards consist of the skills and knowledge that students need to attain in each course from reading comprehension to the ability to work with algebraic equations. Beyond the core academics, there is also an extensive character education initiative with topics ranging from expressing feelings in a respectful and effective way to keeping oneself and others safe in dangerous situations.

Students are assisted in achieving the learning goals through a range of support services. Interventions include Read 180 (for struggling older readers; individualized software is used, and instruction is adjusted based on student data and progress) and English Language Learners receive small class sizes and reading and writing workshops designed for English Language Learners at the appropriate grade level.

Chalk Talk: Parental Involvement

Parental involvement in a child's education is always one of the factors attributed to a child's academic success, but the involvement beyond talking about school, helping with homework, and attending events is an area that a parent needs to show real commitment to in order for it to be effective. Parents can volunteer in classrooms, participate in education foundation events, fundraising, or policy-making areas of the school, but the activities chosen must fit into the parents schedule and be enjoyable. Community service should be an extension of natural talents so whatever areas that you choose to become involved in should fit your interests, which ultimately will benefit the organization and its goals. Also, modeling involvement to a child can help them learn valuable lessons about civic engagement and how to participate in community efforts.
