Whitehall District and Curriculum
Students at Whitehall-Coplay School District are provided with a quality education with the goals that every student be proficient in all Core subjects and each of their students to graduate. With these goals in mind, Elementary and Middle Schools provide a solid foundation for students to not only achieve this, but their personal and career goals as they progress through their education process.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Whitehall District Curriculum
Along with Core subjects, students in elementary school are exposed to the arts, music, computers, social studies, PE, and other basic courses that provide a solid foundation of learning. Middle School students also have a Core focus, but keep a balanced class load with similar other courses in the arts as well as health classes, language courses, and others. These help provide a smooth transition into high school.
High school students at Whitehall-Coplay School District are required to take four English classes, four social studies classes, four math and four science classes. Along with that, they must take one industrial technology or business class, one arts class (either visual or performing arts), two PE/wellness classes, and eight electives in their career pathway. Each of these courses is designed with the students in mind, equipping them to be well prepared citizens after graduation who are adaptive and responsive to changes brought about living in a highly technological age.

Keeping Informed: Recent Whitehall Educational News
- Steckelwood Pops Concert by Elementary Students - Second and third grade choir students will be performing at this year’s Steckelwood Pops concert held at the high school. They will be showing their many musical talents with the direction of their music teacher.
- ACES Exercise Project - In early May, elementary students from various places around the world all exercised. In a project called ACES or All Children Exercising Simultaneously by the Youth Fitness Coalition, students were able to participate in this global project.
- Camp Whitehall for Students - Whitehall-Coplay students finishing Kindergarten through grade eight are invited to attend a summer camp in the area. Students will be offered bus transportation, many fun outdoor and learning activities and field trips for each week that they participate. Fees range between $90 or $100 per week for local students.

Chalk Talk: How to Help Your Child Read
Like learning to ride a bike, learning to read is a slow difficult process. Support at home is invaluable for new readers. You can support your child in school by helping them with reading activities. Reading can be overwhelming to children, so to help them learn the joy of reading, you can read books with them. If they struggle a lot, you can let them read every other page, for example, and you read the rest, or even every other paragraph. You can encourage them and support them with the help that they need to discover that they can read. You can have them read level appropriate stories to you and give them high praise when they succeed. You can also encourage them to participate in reading programs at school or at your public library. Such programs are commonly held through the summer and encourage the children to read through incentives and prizes, raising interest about specific themes. These and other things can greatly help your child to read proficiently.
