Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Sachse District Curriculum
The mathematic curriculum at Sachse School includes the study of geometry. On the way to learning about formulas for different shapes, students learn about the basic shapes first: the circle, triangle, square and so on. Soon, they learn about finding the perimeter and volume of each of these, plus they learn about different kinds of angles. The formulas that they learn in high school help students find the volume and helps them learn how to create a circle or triangle from basic information.
Sachse Schools’ history curriculum is introduced to students gradually in the first few years of schools. Students begin by learning about the people that have helped to build their community and the ones that are needed to continue running it. From here students learn about the history of Texas, including the settlers in the area and the battles that were fought to make it the state they know today. They also learn about the people that first settled in the New World and where they came from, and the cultures of these different areas.

Keeping Informed: Recent Sachse Educational News
- Youth and Government Club - Youth and Government allows students the chance to experience government at the local, state, national, and international settings. Students also take part in district and regional conferences.
- Art Club - Students that take part in the Art Club create and share ideas and artwork with each other. They also create artwork that is displayed throughout the school and work on art projects within the broader community.
- Knitting Club - The members of the Knitting Club meet to discuss ideas or techniques in knitting. They also share their knitted goods with each other. They also welcome those that want to learn how to knit or crochet.

Chalk Talk: Ways to Get Kids Interested in History
So many times, children are presented history as names and dates. With a parent’s help, children can learn that history can also be fun. Look through thrift stores for older clothes and allow the children dress-up time. If the parent knows someone that sews, or if they sew themselves, they can look in a fabric store for some period costume patterns. Look for natural settings that can show students the history of the area from a geological standpoint, which can really frame the idea of history in a big picture way. Another idea is for the parent and child to research a time-period and discover what foods were eaten during that time, then create a menu for a meal to share with the family. Finally, after these activities, plan a trip with the child to see a festival or historic area which depicts this time period. These activities help history to come alive for the entire family.
