Carnot-Moon District and Curriculum
The Moon Area School District is proud to offer state of the art education technology in their classrooms. Students from elementary through high school grades are exposed to and interact with technology on a daily basis. Many of the High School classrooms are equipped with computers for each student as well as smart boards for teachers. Some Elementary and Junior High classes also are equipped with modern technology to further education and make learning easier and more effective for students.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Carnot-Moon District Curriculum
Students at Moon Area School District are taught all Core requirements according to state standards. Students are given a good foundation in reading, writing, math, and science and are therefore prepared to have proficient or higher scores on their PSSA and Keystone exams. Students are thus prepared not only for the exams, but for their other courses and life beyond graduation.
Besides Core subjects and other elective and required material, Moon Area School District focuses on providing a quality arts program. The arts include visual, audio, and theater arts. Students are offered classes and after school activities that allow them to hone their skills. The students develop their aesthetic and artistic interpretation senses and are encouraged to think creatively, which enhances other areas of their learning. Also, the work they accomplish is proudly displayed and produced at the schools in which they are performed and created.

Keeping Informed: Recent Carnot-Moon Educational News
- Middle School Students Visit Washington D.C. for the Holocaust Memorial - Eighth grade students visited Washington D.C. to see the Holocaust Memorial & Museum after they studied The Diary of Anne Frank.
- Elementary Students Participate in Penny Challenge - Students from Brooks Elementary had the opportunity to raise funds for Animal Friends and Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. Students had fun while raising over $1000 for these two great causes. Keep up the good work!
- Students Invited to Kennywood School Picnic - In Mid-June, students from the Moon Area School District will have the opportunity to participate in the Kennywood School Picnic where they will be able to ride rides and have lots of fun. Tickets are sold at a low rate for students participating and may be used another day if students can’t make it on the specified day.

Chalk Talk: How to Keep Kids Reading All Summer Long
Students love summer break, but they can continue reading without it being a chore or an assignment. There are many ways to encourage reading with your child. One is by setting the example. Keeping things around for yourself to read or carrying a book with you when you are going to have to wait a while. This will encourage your child to do the same. Going to the library can be a wonderful way to encourage reading. Your library may have a summer reading program designed to be fun and full of incentives for your child to read all summer long. This also helps keep the reading fun, exciting, and relevant to your child. Rather than requiring a certain number of books to be read, encourage curiosity and reading without making it a chore. Read to your child sometimes instead of watching a movie, for example. Or read the book before seeing the movie. There are many ways to encourage your child to read this summer.
